The Frankenmuth Eagles traveled to Michigan Stadium to face the Goodrich Martians in a matchup of two powerhouse programs, but it was Goodrich who emerged with a hard-fought 10–7 victory.
The opening quarter belonged to the defenses, with neither team able to break through as the score remained 0–0.
Frankenmuth struck early in the second quarter. On the second play of the period, Brock Rowden recovered a fumble and on the very next snap, K.J. Helms broke free for a 41-yard touchdown run. Carson Strickert added the extra point to give Frankenmuth a 7–0 lead.
Goodrich responded with a methodical 13-play drive that reached deep into Eagles territory, but the Martians missed a 33-yard field-goal attempt. The Eagles later drove deep into Goodrich territory before losing a fumble late in the first half, preserving the 7–0 score at the break.
The Martians opened the second half with possession but were forced to punt. Frankenmuth also could not capitalize on its next series and were forded to punt. With 3:47 remaining in the third quarter, Goodrich Quarterback Ty Eickhoff gave Goodrich its first points on a 38-yard touchdown run at the 3:47 mark of the 3rd quarter. Jacob Daggett’s extra point tied the game at 7–7.
Both defenses continued to control the fourth quarter. A key interception by Goodrich set up Daggett for a 33-yard field goal, which he converted with 7:32 remaining to put the Martians ahead 10–7.
The Eagles made one final push, but the Eagles were stopped on fourth down. Goodrich then ran out the clock to secure the win.
For total yards, Goodrich outgained Frankenmuth 245 yards to 224. The Martians held a time of possession advantage 30:01 to 17:59. Helms led the Eagles with 60 yards’ rushing.
